Intron Technology Launches Cost-Effective Centralized 4D Corner
Radar Solution that Supports Multiple Intelligent Driving Platforms Including Horizon Journey@6 Series

2024.11.29

(Hong Kong, November 29, 2024) - Intron Technology Holdings Limited ("Intron Technology" or the "Group"; HKEX: 1760), a leading automotive electronics solutions provider in China, officially launched its centralized 77GHz mmWave corner radar solution. The solution simplifies the traditional edge computing radar and migrates the computing unit to a central domain controller with higher computing power. This effectively reduces system costs while greatly improving radar computing power and the accuracy and stability of environmental perception. The solution uses Infineon's new radar transceiver and advanced waveguide antenna technology to achieve higher performance, lower power consumption, and lower cost.

The Intron Technology's centralized 4D corner radar solution offers functions such as ranging detection, speed measurement, angle measurement, and target recognition, which can be used for a variety of applications, including blind spot monitoring, lane change assistance, collision warning, and other intelligent driving scenarios. The solution adopts a centralised processing architecture, relocating the radar's computation unit to the central processor, i.e. the domain controller with more computing power, overcoming the limitations of sensors in certain specific scenarios, and providing more choices for multi-sensor data fusion, with flexible allocation of computational power, thus realising “Software-Defined Radar’. In low-level automation system, the centralized radar solution eliminates the processing unit of the edge radar, significantly reducing the overall system cost.

Infineon's CMOS transceiver RASIC™ CTRX8191F provides efficient, reliable and secure hardware support for Intron Technology's centralized 4D corner radar solution. The transceiver is based on 28-nm CMOS technology and has four transmit and four receive channels. It has an excellent signal-to-noise ratio and the RF range has been increased by 25% compared with the standard module range. A higher number of RF channels and improved linearity have resulted in a 33% increase in vertical or angular resolution, enabling better identification and differentiation of different objects. At the same time, Intron Technology's uses advanced waveguide antenna technology to overcome the limitations of microstrip antennas and no longer rely on high-frequency plates. The waveguide antenna line is shorter, eliminating feeder loss (90% less than PCB trace loss/CM). The independently developed air waveguide antenna and PCB boards can realise multiple radar PCBAs by changing the antenna array and adapting the relevant software algorithms, which significantly saves the hardware development cycle and production costs.

The solution sends the raw RF chip data directly into the SoC, eliminating the pre-processing stage and utilising the SoC for unified time-domain data processing. The DSP and other dedicated hardware acceleration units in the SoC allow for the implementation of processing algorithms such as FFT, CFAR, DOA, and super-resolution, as well as the output of point cloud data. Further processing can also generate information such as target type and trajectory, which can help to better cope with various smart driving scenarios and enhance active safety.

Intron Technology also provides centralized 4D corner radar kit, which includes radar boards, waveguide antennas, domain controller board, and corresponding software, to assist customers evaluation, testing, and implementation, and to meet the industry's needs for cost reduction and increased efficiency.
